To promote academic exchange and knowledge sharing, and to enhance students’ and faculty members’ understanding of science and engineering, the Faculty of Innovation Engineering of Macau University of Science and Technology organized the Distinguished Lecture Series 2026. Scholars and professionals from different fields were invited to share their latest research findings and practical applications in science and engineering. The third lecture of the series was held on April 2, 2026, in the afternoon at the MUST LIU’s Innovation and Technology Center.

The lecture was hosted by Professor Cai Zhan Chuan, Director of School of Computer Science and Engineering. Professor Sun Qiao, Dean of the Faculty of Innovation Engineering, faculty members, postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and all individuals interested in science and engineering attended the lecture, jointly exploring the importance of interdisciplinary studies and future development directions.
During the lecture, Professor Qu Huamin pointed out that with the intensification of climate change, enhancing environmental prediction and risk management capabilities has become an urgent need. He shared three cutting-edge research achievements integrating artificial intelligence, including a physics-informed location encoding method to improve climate event prediction accuracy, the integration of large language models for weather and climate event prediction, and an intelligent visual analytics system for heat risk management, demonstrating the broad application prospects of artificial intelligence in addressing environmental challenges.

The lecture content was in-depth and inspiring. It not only showcased the latest advances of artificial intelligence technologies in environmental science, but also deepened participants’ understanding of the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. The Faculty of Innovation Engineering stated that it will continue to organize high-level academic activities to promote research innovation and international exchange, laying a solid foundation for cultivating research talents with a forward-looking vision.
