The Department of Space Science and Technology at the Macau University of Science and Technology is affiliated with the Faculty of Innovation Engineering and is dedicated to cultivating space science and technology professionals with an international perspective, an innovative spirit, and strong professional competence. Leveraging the University’s comprehensive disciplinary strengths, the Department combines Macau’s strategic position as a gateway to the Asia-Pacific region with cross-departmental collaboration across multiple research platforms and units within the University, providing students with a high-level teaching and research environment in space science and technology. The Department currently offers the Bachelor of Science in Space Science and Technology, which is designed to meet development needs in space exploration, space science, remote sensing and data applications, aerospace technology, and related interdisciplinary fields. The program emphasizes students’ systematic learning and practical training in space science and technology as well as related interdisciplinary areas, with the aim of nurturing professionals who possess a solid foundation, practical abilities, and innovative potential.
With a focus on the frontiers of national space science development and major strategic needs such as deep-space exploration, the establishment of the Department of Space Science and Technology is highly aligned with the University’s longstanding commitment to scientific and technological advancement. The Department will broaden its global outlook, promote interdisciplinary integration and innovation, and cultivate high-caliber professionals who can adapt to cutting-edge trends in space science and technology and serve the country’s development needs, thereby making positive contributions to social and economic progress. This also represents an important initiative by the Macau University of Science and Technology to actively integrate into the broader national development strategy and participate in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The establishment of the Department will help enhance talent development in space science and technology in the Macau SAR, further expand the University’s disciplinary landscape, and strengthen its academic influence.
