The lecture featured Chair Professor Li Zongjin of the Department of Engineering Science at FIE, as the keynote speaker. His presentation, entitled “Advancing Building Material Technologies Under the Guidance of Physics,” highlighted his latest research achievements and insights into emerging developments in the field of building materials science and engineering.

During the lecture, Professor Li examined how the fundamental principles of physics serve as a strong theoretical foundation for innovation in building material technologies. Beginning with the core concepts of physics as a discipline that seeks to understand the laws of nature, he explained the critical roles of electromagnetism, nuclear physics, classical mechanics, and quantum mechanics in the study of material properties and performance. He further discussed how applied physics drives the development of new materials and engineering technologies, creating a vital link between fundamental scientific research and engineering practice.

Professor Li noted that, in addressing challenges related to durability, functional integration, and sustainability in the building materials sector, a fundamental physics theory-oriented research paradigm can help overcome existing technological barriers and stimulate innovation in materials science. He emphasized that future research will focus on integrating structural performance, functional characteristics, and green, low-carbon design principles. Such efforts aim to develop next-generation building materials that combine high performance, multifunctionality, and environmental sustainability to meet the growing global demand for sustainable development and smart construction.
