The IEEE Computer Society announced its new class of Distinguished Visitors on its website in September 2026. Professor Zhang Tao from the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation Engineering has been selected, making him the first scholar from Macao to receive this prestigious honor.

The IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visitor is a global academic exchange program and honorary title established by the IEEE Computer Society. The program selects outstanding technical experts and scholars from around the world each year in frontier fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, robotics, and software engineering. The selection process is extremely rigorous.
In its official announcement, the IEEE Computer Society noted: “Selection as a Distinguished Visitor is highly competitive and is reflective of your remarkable contributions to the profession, IEEE, the IEEE Computer Society as well as the technical community in general.”
Professor Zhang Tao's selection highlights MUST’s strong commitment to nurturing and supporting young scholars on their journey to becoming top international scientists. It also enhances MUST's influence in the international computer science academic community. As an IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visitor, Professor Zhang will deliver a global lecture tour, presenting MUST—a rapidly rising young university—to the international academic world.
