To deeply implement the concept of organic integration between science popularization education and higher education, and to support the cultivation of young science and technology innovation talents in Macau, the “Future Tech Innovation – Interdisciplinary Innovation Experience Camp,” organized by the Faculty of Innovation Engineering and co-organized by Pui Ching Middle School, was successfully held from July 13 to 15, 2026. The camp was specifically designed for outstanding high school students from Pui Ching Middle School. Through various formats such as lectures on cutting-edge scientific theories, immersive experimental operations, presentation of learning outcomes, and visits to industry-academia-research bases, it provided participants with a scientifically enriching and practical research exploration journey, effectively sparking their enthusiasm and interest in scientific research.
The opening ceremony of the camp was held on the morning of July 13, 2026. Chair Prof. Zhu Yi Zhun, Vice-President of MUST, and Mr. Kou Kam Fai, Principal of Pui Ching Middle School, delivered speeches respectively. Both sides expressed their strong expectations for deepening cooperation between the two institutions and jointly nurturing science and technology talents. They emphasized that this experience camp represents an important initiative by the two schools to promote the implementation of science popularization education and build a platform for students’ scientific research enlightenment. After the speeches, Assistant Dean Yang Lei and Principal Kou Kam Fai signed a cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties, marking a new milestone in the collaboration between the two schools in the field of youth science and technology education. In addition, Assistant Dean Yang Lei provided a detailed introduction to the camp’s activity schedule, core teaching objectives, and featured curriculum design, filling the students with anticipation for the upcoming scientific research exploration.

The organizers carefully designed two core courses that combine forward-looking perspectives, practicality, and interdisciplinary characteristics. In the course “Artificial Intelligence and Mental Health,” professor explained foundational knowledge such as machine learning and large language models, analyzed real-world cases of AI applications in emotion recognition and intelligent psychological counseling, and guided students to personally operate relevant tools. Students also engaged in discussions on topics such as data privacy and technological ethics, fostering critical thinking and digital literacy. The other course, “Exploring Trace Pollutants in Water: First Experience with Environmental Analysis Technology,” focused on the governance of “emerging pollutants.” Professor briefly introduced the sources and hazards of persistent organic pollutants and microplastics, then led students into the laboratory to learn basic environmental monitoring methods and cultivate experimental skills.

In the Classroom
In addition to classroom learning and experimental operations, on the final day of the camp, students participated in a series of site visits to connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications. They visited the MUST History and Achievements Exhibition Hall, the Library, and the MUST LIU’s Innovation and Technology Center. Through these visits, they gained a deeper understanding of the university’s development history and academic foundation, as well as the transformation process of cutting-edge research achievements from laboratories to industrial applications, further broadening their technological horizons.

Site Visit
Finally, the learning outcomes presentation and closing ceremony of the experience camp were successfully held. Mr. Chan Keng Lim, Vice Principal of Pui Ching Middle School, Assistant Dean Yang Lei, along with Assistant Professors Xie Xuan and Zhang Kai, attended the ceremony and served as review panelists. Students sharing their gains and reflections from three days of interdisciplinary learning, experimental operations, and teamwork, while showcasing their learning achievements.
The successful hosting of the “Future Tech Innovation – Interdisciplinary Innovation Experience Camp” not only provided an excellent platform for outstanding students from Pui Ching Middle School to access cutting-edge technologies and engage in scientific research practice, but also further deepened the cooperation between MUST and Macau secondary schools in the areas of science popularization education and talent cultivation. Moving forward, FIE will continue to carry out various forms of science and technology education collaborations across multiple fields, contributing to the cultivation of more outstanding science and technology innovation talents for Macau.
