From April 17 to 19, 2026, the final round of the 17th National College Mathematics Competition was held simultaneously at Sichuan University and Chengdu University of Technology. The competition was organized by the Chinese Mathematical Society, hosted by Sichuan University, and co-hosted by Chengdu University of Technology and the Sichuan Mathematical Society.
Wang, Chaoran, a first-year undergraduate student majoring in Software Engineering at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation Engineering of Macau University of Science and Technology, under the guidance of Professor Ma, Chao from the Department of Engineering Science, Faculty of Innovation Engineering. He demonstrated solid mathematical skills and stable performance during the competition and won the First Prize in the Non-Mathematics Category A at the 17th National College Mathematics Competition. This First Prize is the only one won by the Macau region and represents the highest honor in this competition. The achievement fully demonstrates MUST’s profound accumulation and remarkable achievements in foundational mathematics teaching and innovative talent cultivation.

The preliminary round of the Guangdong Division of the 17th National College Mathematics Competition was held at Guangdong University of Technology on November 8, 2025. Ranking among the top contestants in the Non-Mathematics Category A, Wang Chaoran was awarded the First Prize in the preliminary competition and successfully advanced to the national finals. In addition, a total of thirteen students from the Faculty of Innovation Engineering won the Third Prize in the Non-Mathematics Category A in the preliminary round, under the guidance of Professor Ma, Chao and Associate Professor Xiao, Xuanxuan.
The Chinese Mathematics Competitions for College Students (CMC), hosted by the Chinese Mathematical Society, is a national high-level academic competition for undergraduate students. It aims to inspire students' interest in mathematics, cultivate their ability to analyze and solve problems, enhance the quality of talent cultivation in domestic higher education institutions, and promote the development of university mathematics courses. The competition also provides a platform for students to demonstrate their competence in mathematical thinking and learning outcomes, and supports the cultivation of interdisciplinary and innovative undergraduate talent. In this competition, with a total of 32 divisions, attracting 352,363 participants from 1,322 universities, including Peking University and Tsinghua University. After intense competition, only 1,366 outstanding students from 379 universities nationwide qualified for the final, with an advancement rate of approximately 0.38%.
