POOI TO School Teachers and Students Visit the MUST LIU’s Innovation and Technology Center

To help local secondary school students gain deeper insights into emerging industries and future career pathways, a group of teachers and students from POOI TO School recently visited Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST). During the visit, they toured the MUST LIU’s Innovation and Technology Center and participated in the “Career Magnifier 2025/2026” series of activities.

The event was organized by the Education and Youth Development BureauCentro de Actividades do Bairro do Hipódromo and hosted by the Associação Geral das Mulheres de Macau. Through on-site visits and thematic sharing sessions, students were given opportunities to closely experience advanced technologies and a real-world research environment.

The activity was held on the afternoon of 17 April and began with a welcome address by Associate Professor Yang Lei, Director of undergraduate studies of the Faculty of Innovation Engineering at MUST. On behalf of the Faculty, she warmly welcomed the teachers and students from Pooi To School. She highlighted the long-standing mission of the “Career Magnifier” program in encouraging students to step beyond the classroom and explore different industries. Professor Yang encouraged students to seize the opportunity to discover their personal interests and lay a solid foundation for future academic and career planning.

Professor Yang also briefly introduced the educational philosophy and development of MUST. Founded in 2000, MUST is the largest comprehensive university in Macao and upholds the motto “Dedication to practical studies, Enhancement of knowledge, Ability and Quality.” The University is committed to cultivating high-caliber talent with strong theoretical foundations, practical skills, and innovative spirit to meet the demands of technological advancement and global development. The Faculty of Innovation Engineering and the MUST LIU’s Innovation and Technology Center actively promote scientific research, innovation, and industry–academia–research collaboration, with research areas covering frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence, intelligent manufacturing, and biomedical engineering.

Following the introduction, the teachers and students toured several research platforms within the MUST LIU’s Innovation and Technology Center. As an important base for industrial upgrading and technology transfer, the Center brings together multiple research teams from the Faculty of Innovation Engineering, the Faculty of Medicine, and other disciplines. Facilities include the Key Laboratory of Digital Twin River Basins of the Ministry of Water Resources and the Laboratory for Large-Scale Respiratory Disease Epidemic Prediction, Early Warning, and Medical Big Data Artificial Intelligence Applications, fully demonstrating MUST’s strengths in scientific innovation and interdisciplinary research.

Thematic Sharing Session by Assistant Professor Leong Weng Hang

After the tour, Assistant Professor Leong Weng Hang from the Department of Engineering Science, Faculty of Innovation Engineering, delivered a thematic sharing session. He introduced learning pathways, research directions, and career prospects in high-tech fields and engaged in interactive discussions with students, creating a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere.

Participating students shared that by visiting a university research environment and interacting directly with academic professionals, they gained a clearer understanding of how the technology industry operates in practice and felt inspired regarding their future academic and career choices. The activity concluded successfully with meaningful exchanges. MUST looks forward to continued collaboration with local secondary schools to jointly nurture young talents with innovative thinking and a strong sense of social responsibility.
