The Bachelor of Science programme in Computer Science and Software Engineering, offered by the School of Computer Science and Engineering within the Faculty of Innovation Engineering (FIE) at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), has been granted full five-year accreditation by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE).

HKIE conducted accreditation visit at MUST
This achievement marks a historic milestone for MUST, the first time since the University's establishment that an undergraduate programme in engineering and information technology has received such recognition. It affirms that the programme's quality and graduate attributes meet the rigorous professional standards of one of the world's most respected engineering accreditation bodies.
The HKIE is widely recognized for its stringent accreditation criteria, which ensure that accredited engineering programmes align with international benchmarks for excellence. MUST's successful attainment of full five-year accreditation places the programme among an elite group of institutions whose curriculum design, teaching and assessment quality, faculty expertise, facilities, and student development have been validated as meeting world-class standards. This accomplishment reflects MUST's long-term strategic investment in information technology education and further solidifies its reputation as a leader in science and technology education across the region and beyond.
For students, the accreditation carries profound practical value. Those enrolled from the 2019 intake through the duration of this five-year accreditation period will be eligible to apply for HKIE membership upon graduation, gaining a professional qualification recognized across borders. Moreover, because HKIE-accredited Computer Science programmes are fully aligned with the Seoul Accord, graduates will enjoy substantial recognition in all signatory countries, opening doors to international career opportunities and providing a distinct advantage in pursuing globally recognized professional engineering registration. Looking ahead, MUST remains committed to upholding the standards required for renewal, ensuring that future cohorts will continue to benefit from this recognition.
The Faculty of Innovation Engineering stated that this five-year full accreditation serves as the highest affirmation of its unwavering commitment to educational excellence and student success. Looking ahead, FIE will continue to uphold the University's motto, "Dedication to Practical Studies, Enhancement of Knowledge, Ability and Quality", while staying closely aligned with global technological and industrial trends. The Faculty is further strengthening its emphasis on hands-on learning and deepening industry engagement, ensuring that students gain not only theoretical mastery but also the practical competencies demanded by today's technology sector. These initiatives aim to cultivate a new generation of technology leaders equipped with international perspectives, strong theoretical foundations, and outstanding practical capabilities.
This landmark accreditation also paves the way for deeper collaboration between FIE and other international professional organizations, reinforcing Macao's strategic role in advancing the diversified development of high-tech industries.
