The inaugural seminar of “FIE Interdisciplinary Research Seminar Series” was held on 28 January, 2026 featuring Prof. Gang Li, who delivered a presentation titled “Decoding the Sun: How AI and Cutting-edge Technology are Revolutionizing Space Weather Forecasting”.

During the seminar, Prof. Li explained how cutting-edge AI and machine learning tools are now being used to analyze petabytes of solar data, enabling the prediction of solar flares with unprecedented speed and accuracy. Furthermore, a new generation of sophisticated telescopes are being designed to monitor the Sun’s magnetic field in remarkable detail. By combining these extreme engineering feats with artificial intelligence, we are finally decoding the secret rhythms of our star, transforming space weather from a cosmic mystery into a predictable science.

This new series is designed to foster collaboration across FIE by creating a dedicated forum for sharing diverse research. It seeks to build greater awareness of ongoing work across the faculty, encourage interdisciplinary discussions, and inspire potential joint projects. Each session will feature a faculty member presenting their field and research challenges, exchanging ideas and methodologies across disciplines, and sparking opportunities for collaboration.
