From July 14 to 15, 2025, President Joseph Hun-wei Lee of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) led a delegation to Xiamen for academic exchange and visits. This visit aimed to strengthen cooperation with Xiamen’s research institutions, universities, and enterprises across multiple fields, fostering new opportunities for academic innovation and industry integration.
Visit the Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences
In the afternoon of July 14, the delegation visited the Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where they were warmly received by Academician He Hong, Director, and Chen Shaohua, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director. After touring the institute’s research achievements exhibition. Academician He Hong introduced the institute’s overview, while President Lee detailed MUST’s development. The two parties engaged in in-depth discussions on academic collaboration in environmental science and ecological protection, laying the foundation for future cooperation.
Visit Xiamen University’s History Museum
On July 15, the delegation focused on the exchanges with Xiamen University (XMU). In the morning, they visited the Xiamen University History Museum, Jian’nan Auditorium and Shangxian Field, experiencing the profound cultural heritage and campus atmosphere of this century-old institution, deeply resonating with its motto, “Pursue Excellence; Strive for Perfection.”

At the subsequent meeting, Professor Zhang Zongyi, President of XMU, extended a warm welcome to the delegation. Both sides introduced their respective academic developments and cooperation proposals, reaching broad consensus on collaboration in teaching and research.
Visit Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory
In the same afternoon, the delegation visited XMU’s Xiang’an Campus, starting with the Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory. Guided by the laboratory’s research team, the delegation gained detailed insights into the laboratory’s technological breakthroughs and industrial applications in Chinese energy development and hydrogen equipment research.
Visit the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science
The delegation then visited the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science, where they were warmly received by Academician Dai Minhan, the laboratory’s Honorary Director. They toured the laboratory’s exhibition center, closely examining cutting-edge marine monitoring equipment, observation technologies, and research platforms, gaining a deeper understanding of the laboratory’s research layout and technological advantages.

Later, the delegation held a tripartite meeting with the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science and Xiamen Standards Biological Technology Co., Ltd. The three parties shared experiences in technology transfer and discussed research collaboration directions and industry-academia-research integration models in marine technology, actively exploring opportunities for cross-disciplinary cooperation.

This visit not only deepened mutual understanding between MUST and Xiamen’s research institutions, universities, and enterprises, but also built a solid bridge for practical cooperation in multiple disciplines. It will effectively promote cross-regional academic resource sharing and deep industry-academia-research integration. Additionally, the visit further strengthened collaborative development between Fujian and Macao in academic research, technological innovation, and industrial integration.
