In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), Department of Engineering Science (DES) of The Faculty of Innovation Engineering (FIE) held the Workshop on Low-Altitude Space Economy and Ecology (LaSEE) – Autonomous Intelligence for Autonomous Systems (AI4AS) at N101 Hall on March 16 and 17, 2025. The workshop focused on the applications of four main areas: unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and low-altitude space economy, autonomous systems' autonomous intelligence, smart transportation and tourism, and intelligent manufacturing. Chair Professor Joseph Hun-wei LEE, Vice-Chancellor, and President of MUST, and Distinguished Professor of DES Wang Feiyue delivered speeches at the conference and numerous renowned experts and scholars from different countries were invited to share their knowledge and insights.

In the keynote lectures of March 16, Prof. Ljubo Vlacic from Griffith University and Prof. Yaobin Chen from Macau University of Science and Technology shared their research findings on social transportation and intelligent data-driven approach; Prof. Reggie Davidrajuh demonstrated GPenSIM, a simple yet powerful discrete event system modeling tool; and Dr. Jan Komenda discussed about scalable approaches to guarantee safe and secure operation of large modular discrete-event systems. Professor Zhou Mengchu shared a multidisciplinary approach to advancing knowledge distillation technology.
In the keynote lectures of March 17, Professor Qing-Guo Wang talked about control design for transient performance, while Professor Kamel Barkaoui explored DRL approach for online user-centric QoS-Aware SFC embedding with dynamic VNF placement.
The attendees discussed topics such as the innovations in the industry driven by UAVs in the low-altitude economy, autonomous intelligent technology empowering system decision-making, digital transformation of smart transportation and tourism, and industrial upgrading driven by intelligent manufacturing. The purpose of this workshop was to integrate cross-disciplinary innovation, balance ecological protection and economic development, and lead the sustainable use of airspace resources.
