2025/04/28

To promote academic exchanges and knowledge sharing, and enhance the knowledge and understanding of science and engineering fields among college students and teaching staff, the Faculty of Innovation Engineering of MUST conducts the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering (ISE) Lecture Series (2025) by inviting well-known scholars and professionals from different fields to share their insights on the latest research results and application practices in science and engineering. The third seminar of the ISE Lecture Series were held on the afternoon of April 16, 2025 at the N101 Hall.

The lecture was hosted by Chair Professor Li Zongjin from the Department of Engineering Science, and attended by Professor Zhang Zhiqing, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Chair Professor Li Zhiwu, the Assistant Dean of Faculty of Innovation Engineering, Professor Liu Binyi from the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Associate Professor Huang Guanghui, Program Director of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Assistant Professor Sun Xuejing from the Department of Engineering Science, Assistant Professor Chen Yile, Assistant Professor Ye Qian, Assistant Professor Chen Yue, Assistant Professor Liu Xiao, Assistant Professor Chen Liran and Assistant Professor Zheng Liang from the Faculty of Humanities and Arts. Faculty of Innovation Engineering sincerely welcomed the graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from the FIE, as well as people interested in science and engineering to participate in this ISE Lecture Series and discuss the importance of interdisciplinarity studies and future development directions.

The third lecture of the series, "Vital Architecture" was given by Academician Li Xinggang, the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Architect of China Architecture Design & Research Group. In the speech, he expressed that vital architecture is a dual response to the ideal habitat of the tradition and the urgent challenge of the present. It takes the field research of “Wandering, Walking, Viewing and Living” as its basic inception, the theory of “Integrated Geometry and Poetic Scenery” as its essential ideology, and the practice of “Engineering-Integrated Architecture” as its design methodology. Through a series of design research and reversible dialogue of “envisioning-thinking-making”, it has evolved into five basic building prototypes and their associated practices, demonstrating how architecture can be integrated with the natural environment, historical heritage, structural aesthetics, community culture, and topography to create contextualized and poetic architectural experiences that interact with their specific environments.

The lectures series is an important initiative of the Faculty of Innovation Engineering to cultivate outstanding talents with innovative thinking and interdisciplinary abilities. Lecture topics will cover a variety of fields, such as artificial intelligence, environmental engineering, materials science, and biomedical engineering, etc. Participants have the opportunity to learn from experts in academia who introduced cutting-edge technologies and research progress, and provided an in-depth discussion of challenges and opportunities in related fields for college teachers and students to stimulate innovative thinking in science and technology. The Faculty of Innovation Engineering will continue to hold more academic lectures to provide more practical information and platforms for our teachers and students to promote interdisciplinary integration and sharing of academic achievements, and to cultivate more outstanding leaders in science and engineering disciplines.
