The Faculty of Innovation Engineering at the Macau University of Science and Technology successfully hosted a workshop on “Harnessing the Power of AI: Transforming Higher Education” at N101 Hall in the afternoon of February 12, 2025. The workshop highlighted innovative applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of education, drawing the attention of researchers, students and administrators to explore how AI technologies can revolutionize teaching and learning, research, and administrative activities.

The speakers for the workshop are Mr. Fred Sheu, National Technology Officer of Microsoft Hong Kong, and Mr. Mike Cheung, Account Technology Specialist at Microsoft Hong Kong. Their sharing attracted 230 participants eager to learn about AI technologies.
Speech by Mr. Fred Sheu
Mr. Fred Sheu introduced Generative AI and Microsoft AI, highlighting the principles of responsible AI and the importance of ethical integration in educational settings. He remarked, “AI is not just a tool but a catalyst for innovation in education. Responsible deployment can create efficient learning environments for all.”
Speech by Mr. Mike Cheung
Mr. Mike Cheung showcased cutting-edge AI models that assist the research projects, handle student inquiries, and translate videos into various languages. He remarked, “AI is breaking through the boundaries of traditional education. Our mission is to ensure that AI technologies can maximize the advancement of higher education.”
The workshop demonstrated some use cases on how Generative AI streamlines administrative tasks, supports personalized tutoring, and enhances student engagement. Attendees had the opportunity to customize AI models on Microsoft Azure and develop tailored educational assistants using Copilot Studio.
The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, allowing participants to discuss the ethics of using AI and explore ways to enhance teaching and learning. Moving forward, MUST will continue to promoting the deep integration of AI in education to facilitate significant advancements in higher education during this intelligent era.
