President Joseph Hun-wei LEE made a speech
President Joseph Hun-wei LEE reviewed the growth of the MUST since its establishment in 2000. He stated that MUST has become the largest and the most comprehensive university in Macau, under the joint efforts of the faculty and students. MUST has been ranking among the top 300 world universities by Times Higher Education for five consecutive years. President LEE emphasized that MUST adheres to the motto "Dedication to practical studies, Enhancement of knowledge, Ability and Quality," consistently upholds the mission of "promoting cultural exchange, cultivating intellectual growth, driving economic development, and advancing social progresses", and actively expanding multi-disciplinary cutting-edge research fields. He particularly mentioned that this seminar is organized to promote interdisciplinary research in materials science, particularly in electronics and optoelectronics, with the aim of bridging the gap between Macau and the world's research institutions and industries. President LEE emphasized that innovation has become the DNA of MUST, the university will continue to focus on global technological trends, promote international collaborations, and make greater contributions to Macau's technological innovation and economic transitions in the future.
Mr CHEANG Kun Wai made a speech
Mr CHEANG Kun Wai, Member of Administrative Committee, Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) gave a high evaluation of the Symposium. He noted that this event coincides with the 25th anniversary of Macau's return to China and the 25th anniversary of MUST, making it particularly meaningful. He reviewed the efforts made by the FDCT since its establishment in promoting research development in Macau. He pointed out that Macau has already established a solid research foundation in areas such as microelectronics and smart city Internet of Things (IoT), benefited from the continuous financial support and research platforms provided by the FDCT. Mr CHEANG Kun Wai emphasized that fundamental research should not only drives the advances of scientific knowledge, but also needs to realize technological transfer, and to apply innovative results into the market and create economic benefits. He specifically mentioned that with the rapid development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong innovation and technology corridor, Macau becomes even more prominent with its dual open pathways. The FDCT will continue to support high-level research, promote international collaborations, and assist Macau to achieve new glories in materials science and other disciplines.
Chair Professor LEE Shuit Tong made a speech
Chair Professor LEE Shuit Tong gave a detailed introduction to the development and achievements of the Macau Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (MIMSE). He stated that as an important research platform of MUST, MIMSE has been dedicated to advancing cutting-edge research in materials science since its establishment and has become a crucial bridge connecting Macau and the international research communities. The institute focuses on areas such as electronic materials, optoelectronic materials, novel energy materials, and advanced functional materials, actively exploring interdisciplinary integration, providing innovative solutions towards global challenges in energy, environment, and health. Professor LEE emphasized that MIMSE shows outstanding performance in various international research collaborations, not only attracts renowned scholars from around the world for collaborative efforts, but also successfully undertakes multiple national and regional research projects. Professor LEE noted that this event not only serves as a platform for academic and industrial exchange but also opens opportunities to deepen the integration of industry, university, and research. He expected that this Symposium will foster intellectual sparks among experts from different fields, inspire innovative ideas, and further expand opportunities for collaborations.
