From April 19th to April 21st, 2024, The Finals of the 15th Chinese Mathematics Competition for College Students, organized by the China Mathematical Society and hosted by Shandong University, was held at Shandong University. Hongdi Zhang, a first-year undergraduate student from the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation Engineering of M.U.S.T., won the first prize in the 15th Chinese Mathematics Competition for College Students (non-mathematics). He was guided by Professor Chao Ma from the Department of Engineering Science, Faculty of Innovation Engineering. This award marks the highest honor achieved by a student from Macau in the 15-year history of the Chinese Mathematics Competition for College Students.
The preliminary round of the 15th Chinese Mathematics Competition for College Students in the Guangdong region was held at Guangdong University of Technology on November 11, 2023. Hongdi Zhang and Yingqi Zhu, both from the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation Engineering, won the first and third prizes respectively. Hongdi Zhang ranked among the best in non-mathematics class A and successfully advanced to the national final.
The Chinese Mathematics Competitions (CMC) is a high-level national academic competition for undergraduate students organized by the China Mathematical Society. It aims to stimulate students' interest in mathematics, cultivate their problem-solving abilities, enhance the quality of talent development in Chinese higher education institutions, and foster the advancement of mathematics curricula in universities. Additionally, it strives to provide a platform for showcasing mathematical thinking abilities and academic achievements, thereby nurturing the growth of mathematically gifted and innovative undergraduate students. This year, the competition encompassed 32 regions, with 1108 universities participating and 288355 registrants. A total of 1151 finalists vied in the finals.
