To help local families gain a deeper understanding of different professions, explore the unique characteristics of various industries, and inspire children in their future career development, the Faculty of Innovation Engineering (FIE) of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) welcomed 15 local parent-child families on 3 August 2026. The visit formed part of the “2026 Parenting Education Promotion Program: Parent-Child Career Experience Activity on Career Planning,” organized by the Education and Youth Development Bureau de Centro de Educação Parental and co-organized by the Associação Geral das Mulheres de Macau, During the event, participants visited the Concord Innovation Technology Center at MUST, where they explored the world of advanced technologies through guided tours and hands-on experiences.

The program commenced with a welcome address delivered by Associate Professor Yang Lei, Assistant Dean of the FIE. On behalf of the faculty, she extended a warm welcome to representatives from the Education and Youth Development Bureau de Centro de Educação Parental, the Associação Geral das Mulheres de Macau, and the participating families. In her remarks, she highlighted the significance of the activity in promoting career awareness among children and young people, fostering parent-child co-learning, and encouraging participants to make the most of the opportunity to explore emerging technologies and experience the excitement of innovation firsthand.
Following the opening session, participants embarked on a one-hour guided tour and interactive experience led by faculty and staff members. The families visited several advanced research facilities, including the Maker Space, the Innovation Research Center for Medical Robotics, the Laboratory for Large-Scale Respiratory Disease Forecasting, Early Warning and AI Applications in Medical Big Data, and the Joint Research Center for Frontier Technologies in Intelligent Aviation Simulation. Through these visits, participants gained valuable insights into the important role of high-tech industries in society while also having the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities and experience cutting-edge research environments. The tour provided a clearer and more comprehensive understanding of the work, skills, and future prospects associated with various technology-related professions.

Following the tour, Assistant Professor Leong Weng Hang from the Department of Engineering Science of the FIE delivered an engaging thematic sharing session for the participating families. Using clear and accessible examples, he introduced children and parents to educational pathways and career opportunities in high-tech fields. During the interactive question-and-answer session that followed, families enthusiastically participated in discussions, and children were encouraged to ask questions about technology and future careers. The lively exchange created an inspiring and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.

Parents who participated in the program expressed their appreciation for the innovative design of the activity. Many noted that the opportunity to explore a university’s advanced research facilities alongside their children not only broadened the youngsters’ horizons but also provided valuable insights for parents considering future educational and career pathways for their families. Looking ahead, the Faculty of Innovation Engineering aims to continue strengthening collaboration with community partners and providing high-quality science outreach and career exploration opportunities for local youth and families, contributing to the cultivation of future talent with creativity, innovation, and a passion for technology.
