The 8th SCSE PhD Student Seminar Was Successfully Held

On September 25, 2024, the 8th PhD Student Seminar of the School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE) kicked off in Room N214, and successfully continued on September 26 in rooms A201, A301, B402, B404, C402, C406, and C407. The main participants of this seminar were PhD students from the SCSE. The seminar aimed to provide students with the opportunity to practice their presentation skills in an academic conference setting, simulating the format of international academic conferences, while promoting academic exchanges between faculty and students. This event not only enhanced the academic capabilities of PhD students but also laid a solid foundation for their future participation in international academic exchanges.

More than 130 faculty members and students attended the seminar, including Chair Professor Du Zhang, Dean of the SCSE, and Professor Cheung-Choy Tsang, Chair of the seminar.

During the opening ceremony, Dean Du Zhang delivered a speech. First, he congratulated the second-year PhD students on their significant academic progress and expressed his best wishes for their future endeavors. He then encouraged the students to actively embrace challenges and continually improve their research skills. Lastly, Dean Zhang emphasized the importance of holding PhD seminars in enhancing students' research capabilities and expressed his gratitude to all faculty and staff for their contributions to the development of the school over the years. The seminar officially commenced the next day, with 104 PhD students from the 2023 and 2022 cohorts presenting their research projects and sharing some of the achievements they made under the guidance of their supervisors.

Following the seminar, the panel of judges, including Cheung-Choy Tsang, Chak-Fong Cheang, Subrota-Kumar Mondal, Xiaoping Lu, Yuyang Peng, Zhanchuan Cai, Weihong Mai, Dagang Li, Zhizhong Huang, Zhiyao Liang, Jinyu Tian, Ting Lan, Yang Wu, and Xuanxuan Xiao, discussed the students' presentations and research findings. Ultimately, the Best Paper Award was presented to PhD student Ruichong Lin for “I-based Pathology and Genomics Predict Recurrence-free Survival after Breast Cancer Surgery”, PhD student Mingwen Zhu for “Performance Modeling of the Block Proposing Mechanism in Ethereum 2.0-based Blockchains”, and PhD student Shuhan Qi for “Lunar Cold Anomaly of Brightness Temperature Revealed by Chang’e-2 Microwave Radiometer”. The Outstanding Innovation Award went to PhD student Qi Sun for “Minimizing Nonradiative Recombination via Reconfiguring Charge Behavior for Efficient Perovskite Light-emitting Diodes”, and PhD student Junze Zheng for “Joint Learning of Physical and Digital Face Attacks”. PhD students Yue Xiao and Haibo Yang received the Best Performance Award for “A Survey of Clinical Intelligent Diagnosis of Electronic Medical Records Based on Large Language Models” and “Application of Wavelet Analysis and Deep Learning in Pulmonary Function Tests: A Review”, respectively. The Best Service Award was given to students Meng Li and Rongrong Wang, and the Best Support Award went to students Jiaming Wu and Wanting Wang.
