The new graduate student orientation of the Macao Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (MIMSE), Macau University of Science and Technology was held on September 30th at the MUST LIU’s Innovation and Technology Center. All teachers and graduate students from the MIMSE participated in this online/onset hybrid event. Attendees of this orientation include Chair Professor Shuit-Tong Lee, Director of the MIMSE, Professor Jianxin Tang, Executive Deputy Director of the MIMSE, Professor Man Keung Fung, Assistant Professor Qingdong Ou, Assistant Professor Songshan Zeng, Assistant Professor Hao Wu, Assistant Professor Weng Chon Cheong, as well as the newly joined Assistant Professor Qiong Lei, Assistant Professor Yiyu Cai and Assistant Professor Xuejing Wang.
In the opening speech, Professor Shuit-Tong Lee welcomed the new teachers and new students on behalf of the Institute. He wished the students to make full use of the institute’s high-level scientific research platform and high-quality teachers, cherish the opportunity to study in Macau, and pursue lofty academic goals. He encouraged the students to cultivate an open academic character and become a high-quality comprehensive talent with innovative thinking and international vision. At the same time, Prof. Lee also hoped that the new teachers can seize the good historical opportunities, work hard in Macau and the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, give full play to the advantages of the two places, and take scientific research and teaching to a higher level.

Professor Jianxin Tang made a speech on behalf of the institute, detailing the institute's construction in team building, platform facilities, scientific research results, industrial promotion, etc. in the past academic year. Professor Man Keung Fung introduced the scientific research platform and laboratory management to teachers and students, hoped that students can make good use of the good scientific research platform provided by the university and conduct better scientific research experiments in the future. Professor Youyong Li introduced the doctoral and master's programs to the students. He encouraged them to cherish the studying in Macau, pursue their academic goals, and strive to become high-quality talents with international vision and innovative thinking. Assistant Professor Qiong Lei spoke on behalf of the new teachers and elaborated on her views on Macau and the prospects of scientific research in Macau. Jiawen Wang, the doctoral student representative of the class of 2022, wished the freshmen to achieve success in their studies, and live up to their time. Yanlin Xu, a representative of the 2024 doctoral freshman, said she would cherish the opportunity and devote herself to research.
During the discussion of the orientation, many teachers from the institute, including Professor Lifeng Chi, Professor Liangsheng Liao, Professor Youyong Li, Professor Baoquan Sun, Professor Zhenhui Kang, Professor Suidong Wang, and Professor Liang Li also spoke online, to extend their warm welcome and blessings to the new academic year, new teachers and new students.
