The lecture was chaired by Prof. Yibing Ma, with Academician Ni giving a presentation titled "Environmental Risks and Ecological Fallacies," delving into current controversies. Special attention was given to the reasoning biases introduced by the fallacy of Pan-Ecology. Using the example of iodine in groundwater and its forms in relation to thyroid disease risk, Academician Ni provided a detailed analysis of different chemical species (e.g., I-, IO3-, and OI) affect ecological and health risk assessments. He systematically analyzed the impact of key processes such as Occurrence, Ingestion, Metabolism, and Disease on risk assessment. Academician Ni emphasized the importance of comprehensively considering the contributions of each process to improve the accuracy of health risk assessments.
