To promote academic exchanges and knowledge sharing, and enhance the knowledge and understanding of science and engineering fields among college students and teaching staff, the Faculty of Innovation Engineering of MUST conducts the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering (ISE) Lecture Series (Fall 2024) by inviting well-known scholars and professionals from different fields to share their insights on the latest research results and application practices in science and engineering. The ninth and tenth seminars of the ISE Lecture Series were held on the afternoon of December 12, 2024 at the MUST LIU’s Innovation and Technology Center.

The lectures were hosted by Associate Professor Liang Yan Yan from the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Faculty of Innovation Engineering, and attended by Professor Liu Liang Gang, the scientific advisor of the FDCT, Chair Professor Zhang Du, the dean of the School of Computer Science and Engineering, and Professor Chan Kwing Lam, Deputy Head of Department of Engineering Science at Faculty of Innovation Engineering. Graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from the Faculty of Innovation Engineering, as well as people interested in science and engineering to participate in this ISE Lecture Series and discuss the importance of interdisciplinarity studies and future development directions.

The ninth lecture of the series, "AI Enabled Smart Healthcare " was given by Professor Lei Zhen from Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR), Hong Kong Institute of Science & Innovation at University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. In the speech, he believed that the development of artificial intelligence technology has brought tremendous technological revolution and development space to all walks of life. At present, high-quality medical resources in society are unevenly distributed, supply and demand are unbalanced, and personalized precision medicine is in urgent need. Intelligent diagnosis and treatment technology has become an important research direction in the field of life and health. The combination of AI and the medical field is bound to bring new breakthroughs to smart healthcare. Professor Lei Zhen also introduced the recent progress from his team in three parts, the first is spatial intelligence, realizing the perception of the smart operating room scene, and improving the understanding and monitoring of people, equipment and the environment; the second is the perception and understanding of surgical endoscopes, improving the ability of surgical information processing and decision support; finally, he introduced the progress in intelligent medical diagnosis and analysis, and automatically analyzes and interprets medical images through AI algorithms to provide more accurate, fast and convenient medical imaging diagnosis services.

Professor Cheng Long from the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered the tenth lecture titled "On Human-Machine Interaction for Wearable Hand Exoskeletons ", where he introduced some recent challenges and advances on the human-machine motion compliant mechanical design, sensing and understanding technologies for human-robot interaction, and active interactive control techniques based on the intention of users. Professor Cheng Long believed that wearable robots have extensive applications in various labor-intensive industries such as rehabilitation care, elderly and disabled assistance, and unloading and transportation. Achieving natural human-machine interaction between wearable robots and users is a highly challenging task.
