MUST FIE launched first short course module for Macao high school students under the Young Talent Program

To promote science education, assist young people and students to plan their career in science and technology, and support their further studies and diversified development, the Faculty of Innovation Engineering (FIE) of MUST has introduced several short-term courses in science and engineering under its Young Talent Program, targeted at Macau high school students. On the morning of September 7, 2024, the first class of the short-term course "Artificial Intelligence in Medical Image Processing" was held at MUST for the students of the Premier School Affiliated to Hou Kong Middle School (HKMS) for the first time. An opening ceremony was held prior to class commencement to celebrate the occasion.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Li Xiaodong, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Innovation Engineering, expressed a warm welcome to the 20 HKMS students participating in the short course on behalf of MUST, and gave an introduction of the background of the Faculty of Innovation Engineering and artificial intelligence technology. He expressed his expectations for the teachers and students in the coming weeks.

Welcome speech by Professor Li Xiaodong

After the opening ceremony, Assistant Professor Li Nannan from the Faculty of Innovation Engineering commenced teaching the first class of "Artificial Intelligence in Medical Image Processing", introducing the basic concepts and mathematical principles of artificial intelligence as well as basic Python Programming and image processing in a simple and easy-to-understand way. The course allows students to understand the application of digital image processing and deep learning technology in the field of medical imaging analysis.

The class (one of four classes) lasted for two hours and was warmly welcomed by the students. Students who participated in the course shared that through this course they learned the core principles and methodologies of intelligent image processing systems and felt the current advancements in artificial intelligence for medical image processing, which helped to develop their interest in artificial intelligence technology and expand their scientific perspectives.
