Scientific interests

Astromycology, Astrobiology, and Microbiology, with a special emphasis on Applied Mycology and Biotechnology.

Current research focuses: fungal ecology and biodiversity in environmental analogues to outer-space conditions; fungal development under altered gravity and exposure to artificial Lunar and Mars regoliths, high salinities, and extreme temperatures, under the contexts of space exploration and climate change; fungal bioprospection, application, and growth containment; and space biotechnology.

Outreach: high engagement with different organisations and societies to promote the dissemination of science, particularly microbiology, and astrobiology, as well as to develop answers to environmental concerns and space exploration.
